Power supplies for LED lighting

29 January 2014 Power Electronics / Power Management

Following the launch of its PCD/PLD-16/25 series, Mean Well has introduced higher wattage models of 40 W/60 W economical constant-current LED power supplies with power factor correction, in the form of the PCD/PLD-40/60 families.

The PCD-40/60 series are AC phase-cut dimming power supplies and are compatible with leading edge or trailing edge TRIAC dimmers and fulfil AC dimming requirements in the LED lighting market. Featuring a 180–295 V a.c. input range, they provide a 350–2400 mA output.

The units have efficiencies up to 88% and can be operated at full load using free air convection cooling from -30°C to +50°C ambient temperature. They are designed with a single-stage PFC topology, enabling them to meet the requirements of high power factor (above 0,9) and EN61000-3-2 Class C (harmonic current) for the lighting industry.

Designed for Class II (no FG) with double isolation, the power supplies are enclosed in UL 94V-0 rated plastic cases which can effectively prevent users from electrical shock. With built-in short circuit and over-temperature protection, these new models comply with lighting certificates per ENEC EN61347-2-13, EN62384 and CE.
