'Super high' integration 16 bit microcontroller

25 October 2000 DSP, Micros & Memory

Hitachi Europe has announced availability of its new super high integration 16 bit flagship microcontroller, the H8S/2633F. This device offers market leading 16 bit performance with high memory and peripheral integration, which Hitachi says will allow the design of ultra-compact, super low power systems, which will often radiate much less and offer higher reliability than comparable multichip solutions.

A system designed with the H8S/2633F will often not require any external memory or peripherals and hence can be assembled extremely quickly and at low cost. With the absence of external busses such a system will also suffer less interference from EMC. The H8S/2633F offers 256 KB of third generation, high-speed, on-chip flash memory and 16 KB RAM. It also features a comprehensive set of peripherals, including five serial ports with ISO 7816, IIC and IrDA options.

The H8S CPU core features almost 10 Mips Dhrystone at 25 MHz and a hardware multiply-accumulate unit to aid digital signal processing algorithms. It is software compatible with other Hitachi H8 and H8S 8 and 16 bit microcontrollers. The H8S/2633F features a comprehensive peripheral set including a bus state controller, four channels of direct memory access, a multichannel data transfer controller with versatile pseudo DMA, a six channel 16 bit timer with up to 16 IC/OC, a four channel 8 bit timer, a watchdog timer and 32 kHz subclock, a 16 I/O programmable pulse generator, five SCI channels, 16 channels of 10 bit A/D, four channels of 8 bit D/A, 73 I/O and 16 input ports.

The devices are available in FP-128 and TFP-120 package formats. The total footprint of the TFP-120, including its pins, measures 16 x 16 mm.
