Cat 6 plugs and PCB jacks

28 March 2001 Interconnection

The TM21 plugs and PCB jacks from Hirose meet all the requirements of Cat 6, Channel Class E up to 250 MHz, with performance that exceeds the draft requirements. The combined performance of the plug and vertical receptacle give a NEXT result of 50 dB on all four pairs.

The TM21 Cat 6 plug can accept 0,5 mm solid or 24 and 26 AWG stranded cable, with options for a guide plate that will accept a 1,1 mm diameter wire. The guide plate is used to hold the wires in position whilst loading the cable into the plug. Termination can then be completed with either hand tooling or semi automatic tools, both of which terminate the contacts and strain relief all in one go. The plug assembly is then completed with a snap together hood that features latch protection cover and available in a choice of nine colours for colour coding.

The plug and jacks are fully shielded and feature ground contacts that mate before the signal contacts, as well as fingers around the outside of the connector to ground onto the panel.
