High-speed chip mounters

1 January 2015 Manufacturing / Production Technology, Hardware & Services

Samsung Techwin’s SM family of flexible chip mounters can handle a variety of components ranging from 01005 up to 55 mm ICs and 75 mm connectors. It also features a polygon recognition algorithm for enhanced recognition of odd-shaped parts.

The three platforms in the range are the SM482 with a 6-spindle head and 28 000 components per hour (CPH) capacity; SM481 with a 10-spindle head and 39 000 CPH; and the dual-gantry SM471 with two 10-spindle heads, capable of 75 000 CPH. All three feature high-speed, high-precision electrically driven feeders while maintaining compatibility with SM series pneumatic feeders.

The system’s high placement speed is provided by a flying head mechanism with optimised pickup/placement motion. On-the-fly image recognition technology means that it can perform part recognition without stopping after part pickup. The feeder system allows for integrated use of 01005/2P/4P in the same feeder. Feeders are equipped with a function to automatically align the pickup position between feeders to improve the simultaneous pickup rate. The SM SMART feeder is further equipped with auto splicing and auto loading functions.
