Highly durable thermal material

25 February 2015 Manufacturing / Production Technology, Hardware & Services

Gap Pad 1000HD, a high-durability thermal material from the Bergquist Company, combines the proven thermal and mechanical performance of the company’s Gap Pad thermally conductive elastomer with a tough polyimide carrier to satisfy demanding automotive and industrial applications.

The material has thermal conductivity of 1,0 W/m-K and displays desirable interfacing and wet-out characteristics, even to rough or uneven surfaces. The polyimide carrier maximises puncture and tear resistance and enhances handling characteristics, while also ensuring high dielectric breakdown voltage of over 10 kV.

By combining high thermal performance with enhanced durability, Gap Pad 1000HD is ideal for applications such as automotive energy storage devices like battery or ultra-capacitor packs, and electronic equipment for trucks, buses or planes, as well as other demanding applications such as telecommunications equipment or computer peripherals.

This thermal interface material is available in a range of six standard thicknesses from 0,508 mm to 3,175 mm, and in sheet form or as die-cut parts compatible with manual or automated assembly processes. The polyimide side has minimal tack while the upcoated side has high inherent tack, allowing a reliable, thermally efficient bond without requiring additional adhesive.

A wide operating temperature range from -60°C to 180°C exceeds that required for many automotive and industrial applications, and UL 94 V-0 flame-retardant rating ensures the safety of equipment and end users.
