GSM and GPS combination module

23 September 2015 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT

The SIM808 is a new GSM and GPS two-in-one function module from SIMCom. Supporting GSM/GPRS quad-band network and combining GPS technology for satellite navigation, it comes in a compact surface mount package and features Bluetooth as well as USB and serial interfaces.

The module’s ultra-low power consumption in sleep mode, and integrated charging circuit for Li-Ion batteries, allows for long standby time and is convenient for projects that use a rechargeable Li-Ion battery. It has high GPS receive sensitivity with 22 tracking and 66 acquisition receiver channels. Support for A-GPS is available for indoor localisation. TTFF (time to first fix) is typically 30 seconds from cold start and 1 second from hot start, with an accuracy of < 2,5 metres CEP.

The module is controlled by AT command via UART and supports 3,3 V and 5 V logic levels.
