Power amplifier solution increases range at a lower power consumption

SST Communications, the RF integrated circuit subsidiary of SST has announced a Bluetooth power amplifier solution that increases transmission range with lower power consumption than usual. Targeting Bluetooth Class 1 applications like wireless USB dongle and long-range pico-nets, the SST12LP00 is a high-gain, high-efficiency InGaP/GaAs power amplifier with high linear output power.

The device features a minimum 29 dB gain across 2,4-2,5 GHz and linear output power up to 21 dBm at 3,3 V operation. Other key features include:

* Low current consumption of less than 90 mA at 21 dBm output power.

* Low quiescent current of Icq <15 mA when there is no input power.

* On-chip shutdown controlled directly by logic signal from the baseband MAC.

* A minimum of external components are needed (two capacitors for I/O and three capacitors for supply voltage regulation).

Ideal for small portable designs, the SST12LP00 comes in a 6-pin VQFN package.
