Kingbright offers photo-interrupters with high sensing accuracy in a PCB mounting type package. The photo-interrupter is a combination of light emitter and light detector. When an object crosses the gap between the two elements, the resulting change in illuminance is detected by the light detector to provide the switching. A gallium-arsenide infrared LED is used as the light emitter with a silicon phototransistor. The packaging is designed to optimise efficiency and insulate against ambient light.
