High performance SBC with dual-core Pentium D

9 August 2006 Computer/Embedded Technology

The PCIE-9450 from IEI is a full size CPU card that promises the latest in industrial motherboard technology. This single board computer (SBC) offers LGA 775 CPU support, with a Pentium D (dual core) processor and up to 1066 front side bus (FSB). It also uses DDR II type dual RAM.

With these technologies, the company says that high performance can be achieved and thus it can be used for many high processing power-hungry systems. Bottlenecks in these types of systems usually occur when reading/writing to the hard disk drive (HDD). This SBC system has the latest HDD support, supporting Serial ATA II (SATAII), which can read/write at 300 GBps. SATA II also supports RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10, which can dramatically increase the read/write speeds and is also used for redundancy in high technology systems.

Where networking is essential, this board supports dual Gigabit Ethernet LAN (GbE LAN). With USB 2.0 devices becoming more widely used, seven USB 2.0 ports are provided, which should be enough for most modern day systems. This SBC uses the latest backplane technology supporting the new PCI-Express I/O Slot Standard. The PCI-express bus is much faster than normal PCI and has become the new standard for I/O cards and especially, high performance graphics cards.

In order to keep systems updated to the latest technology with highest performances, the PCIE-9450 is considered a good choice. The company guarantees that this product will be available for the next five years.
