New fibre-optic connector ensures seamless transition to HDTV

9 August 2006 Interconnection

Fischer Connectors has introduced what it says is the first fibre-optic HDTV broadcast camera connector that meets the broadcast industry's requirements for an effortless transition to fibre-based HDTV cameras.

With its ease of use, quick and simple termination, fast on-site installability, and a lower total installation cost than is possible with presently available solutions, Fischer claims the 1053 HDTV connectors provide the answer many camera manufacturers, mobile truck providers, production centres and broadcast studios have been waiting for to make the transition to fibre-based HDTV cameras.

Co-developed in an exclusive partnership with optical fibre manufacturer, Corning, the 1053 series combines Fischer's established reliable Broadcast Triax connectors with the technology of Corning's UniCam 'No epoxy - No polish' fibre-optic contacts. Eliminating the difficult procedure of polishing fibre-optic elements, as well as the need of using special epoxies, the company claims the 1053 makes it now practical and economical to field-assemble HDTV camera connectors anywhere, in a termination time of 30 minutes - said to be 50% faster than currently available products.

To ensure compatibility with all HDTV broadcast camera manufacturers, the Fischer 1053 connector is SMPTE signal-compliant.

Fischer Connectors designs, manufactures, sells, and distributes high-precision electrical, fibre-optic, and hybrid connectors. The Fischer 1053 HDTV Camera Connector was awarded the Television Broadcast Top Innovation Award for 'technology insight for the bottom line' at the 2005 NAB show.
