Texas Instruments has introduced a family of 200 mA low dropout regulators (LDOs) which offer an auto low-power mode that combines low quiescent current of less than 8 μA with fast transient response, while maintaining low noise and a high power supply rejection ratio (PSRR). The new LDOs are designed to help increase battery runtime without sacrificing performance in noise-sensitive applications such as smart phones, MP3 players, RF modules, remote controls, ZigBee network systems and handheld consumer devices.
The TPS727xx’s auto low-power mode allows it to achieve less than 8 μA without an additional mode pin and automatically switches to and from low power depending on load current. The LDO features fast transient response of ±50 mV for 200 mA, low noise of 32 μVRMS and high PSRR of
70 dB at 1 kHz. It enables the use of small 1,0 μF ceramic capacitors, which allows for a smaller overall solution. The low dropout voltage of 130 mV, together with the stable and accurate output voltage range of 0,9–5 V, is designed to increase system reliability, while factory EEPROM programming of the output voltage provides the flexibility to quickly sample and release custom VOUT versions.
