SIBA’s new miniature SMD fuse, measuring 4,5 x 16 mm in size, is designed to interrupt ‘real’ short circuits such as in mains protection, and can safely interrupt currents of up to 4000 A.
As opposed to traditional variants with large dimensions and round fuse body, this new block-shaped SMD miniature fuse offers unique advantages for the production process. As a side benefit it also legibly displays the rated current whereas, in the case of pin-type cylindrical fuses, rated current has to be decoded by colour first. While the distance between the end caps is short, the fuse still meets the explosion protection guidelines as specified in the relevant norm (IEC 60079-11 / DIN IEC 60079-11 (VDE 0170-7) Draft Standard 2008-04: Explosive Atmospheres – Part 11: Equipment Protection by Intrinsic Safety 'I').
