Partnership brings new power solutions to Africa

2 May 2012 News

Thata uBeke Manufacturing (TUB) has entered into a technology, marketing, agency and after-sales agreement with leading Spanish power solutions company, Jema Energy, for the Africa region.

TUB is an established South African electronic and electrical system manufacturer with a proven ability to provide world class services, products and development. TUB has traditionally focused its attention in the military, automotive, industrial and mining sectors.

Jema is focused on the design and manufacture of customised static power converters and solutions for power plants (thermal, nuclear, solar, hydro), energy distribution, renewable energy, plasma physics, petrochemical, railways, oil and gas installations.

This relationship allows TUB to offer, from South Africa, localisation of the design, manufacture and maintenance of such power solutions to these markets in Africa. Such products would include photovoltaic (PV) inverters, rectifiers, AC and DC UPS systems, customised high-specification power supplies, frequency converters, static VAR compensators (SVC), STATCOM, etc.

TUB is ISO9001:2008 accredited and carries a Generic Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) Level 6 Certificate with value added supplier status. ISO14001:2004 accreditation and a Level 5 BBBEE with VAS are envisioned for 2012. TUB offers customised design, technical advice, installation and commissioning to EPC clients and project developers from design through to commissioning and beyond.

Jema has created the Jema Solar trademark, which brings together all the activities and services in the world of photovoltaic installations, chiefly on-grid power plants. The basis of this is the range of IF series PV inverters, highly robust and reliable equipment which Jema has developed over recent years and applied to medium- and high-power industrial systems.

Jema has been a leader in the supply of AC and DC UPS systems for concentrated solar plants, supporting some 10 of these plants in Spain alone. One of these is the 18 MW Gemasolar project, the first of its kind with the capability of producing energy 24 hours.

In the United Arab Emirates, the 100 MW SHAMS-1 plant relies on Jema UPS systems to ensure security of power supply for critical systems. The Jema and TUB partnership in South Africa now makes available such expertise to the dynamic South African and African markets.

A variety of additional offerings are structured to ensure maximum peace of mind at plant level for ongoing and continuing confidence in security of power supply. These include a web-based monitoring system giving real-time monitoring, alarm and diagnostics from any location; consultancy and training services; post-commissioning warranty backup, on-site maintenance, repair services and supply of spare parts.

In close cooperation with Jema, TUB is offering the iSIS (integrated Solar Inverter Solution) a South African produced solution for on-grid PV power plants. The solution will comprise inverter modules, protection, transformer and cooling all packaged in an aesthetic substation container. Power management of up to 1 MW per iSIS unit can be achieved.
