IPC APEX débuts in India

23 October 2013 News

The inaugural IPC APEX India conference and exhibition was held from 26 – 29 August at the NIMHANS Convention Centre in Bangalore.

Attendance figures were nowhere near what the original US version of the expo attracts, with only 34 companies exhibiting and 1000 visitors comprising process engineers, design engineers, purchasing managers, corporate executives and others from original equipment manufacturers, electronics manufacturing companies, printed board fabricators and industry suppliers.

These figures surely cannot be considered indicative of the size of the Indian market and probably have a lot to do with the fact that the show took place just one week before the already well established electronica India and productronica India. Indeed, the organisers have announced that next year’s show will be in May.

Two exhibitors showcasing new products were Global Electronics of Texas, USA and PCB Power/CSIL of Ahmedebad, India. Global Electronics premiered its new PCBTech brand standalone router, the first router of its kind to be manufactured and assembled in India. PCB Power/CSIL launched two new products at the show: an SMD solder paste stencil printer and its SMD reflow oven.

In addition to the conference, tradeshow and workshops, IPC APEX India featured competitions that brought together the most skilled hand soldering technicians and PCB designers in India with the winners and runners-up receiving free admission to IPC certification courses.
