Fully integrated module adds wireless connectivity to any system

The new WISMO Quik range of plug-in modules from Wavecom lets any manufacturer integrate wireless voice, data and Internet capability into any application in one simple step.

WISMO Quik is a fully integrated module that packs a wealth of radio and digital communications technology into an easy-to-use package. Boasting a thin profile and low overall weight and volume, it can add wireless ability to applications in very tight spaces. It can be mounted on almost any circuit board and is suitable for any size production run, says Wavecom.

The module can be customised quickly for specific applications and customer needs, or even run wireless applications right on the module itself. The manufacturer says adding new features is easy. All it takes is a simple download to get enhanced software versions or to add new functions to existing applications or systems. Uploads can be handled remotely through radio. In automotive applications, it is designed to be tough enough for demanding vehicle environments. Modular design means auto-makers can offer wireless applications in any vehicle type.

For mobile telephones and PDAs, despite its small size WISMO Quik packs many cutting-edge voice and data features. Internet capability is one. For machine-to-machine applications, no special expertise is needed to give any machine wireless capability. WISMO Quik also offers board-to-board press-on contact. This simplifies the RF connection in production and enhances reliability. Two memory size options are available - regular memory size for standard applications and high capacity for personal communication devices with advanced software features.

The latest product available in the WISMO Quik range is the Q2400 series, the thinnest module on the market - at 3,9 mm. All components are concentrated on one side of the module. The Q2400 series offers the maximum in data flow capacity with high-performance GPRS Class 10. It is fully compatible with previous WISMO generations as it has the same mechanical footprint and hardware and software interfaces.
