Stable zener-based DC voltage reference standard

16 Feb 2000 Test & Measurement

Wavetek Precision Measurement has introduced its 7000 Series volt maintenance system, giving calibration laboratories the benefit of a 10 V d.c. voltage reference with a drift rate predictable to within ±0,15 ppm/year.

The 7000 Series is claimed to be the most stable zener-diode-based DC voltage standard in the world. In addition to achieving an exceptional level of stability, the 7000 Series volt maintenance system automates all the routine measurements required to compile a detailed performance history and maintain traceability to national standards, ensuring the consistency of measurement and the freedom from human error required to achieve high confidence levels.

The 7000 Series volt maintenance system brings precision DC voltage metrology within the reach of a far greater number of commercial and institutional calibration laboratories, says the manufacturer. It also eliminates the time-consuming procedures and high skill levels previously required to maintain 10 V d.c. voltage reference standards.

All the advantages of process automation, computerised data collection and statistical analysis have now been applied to bring speed and simplicity to a metrology practice that was previously extremely wasteful of cal lab resources, says Wavetek.
