Analog Devices' Pathfinder client premises equipment (CPE) chipset with ADSL integrated communications processor is the first to integrate the communications processor and ADSL digital pump on a single chip. The high level of integration reduces the ADSL router bill of materials by up to 40% according to the company. ADI's Pathfinder is aimed at the small office/home office (SOHO) and residential mass-market applications including ADSL bridges/routers, ADSL USB-Ethernet combo devices, ADSL wireless gateways and ADSL Integrated Access Devices (IADs). Pathfinder is also a platform for providing emerging value-added broadband services like stateful firewall, and Fast Path QoS.
"Analog Devices' Pathfinder is a giant step forward in meeting the industry need for high performance, cost-effective, full function broadband access solution," said Brian McAloon, group vice president and general manager, ADI. "Pathfinder-based ADSL bridge/router products will set new price/performance standards to spur further growth in the DSL market and to benefit the end user."
ADI's Pathfinder-based solution is comprised of two chips - the AD6680 and AD6480. The AD6680 provides Layer-1 to Layer-7 processing for ADSL applications on a single chip, including ADSL, ATM processing, bridging/routing, stateful firewall, QoS/bandwidth management, network management and PC Card support for WLAN/802.11b. It directly interfaces with the integrated line driver/receiver AFE (AD6480). Analog Devices offer complete software and reference platforms for bridge/router, wireless gateways and integrated access devices (VoIP/VoATM) applications.
In addition, ADI's Pathfinder solution combines some of the market leading features of ADI's AD6489, a high performance broadband communications processor, with the ADSL PHY.
