Company offers standard and individually-customised plastic cases

25 September 2002 Manufacturing / Production Technology, Hardware & Services

For some years OKW Gehäusesysteme has been offering its customers a comprehensive range of services. In the company's own Service-Center, the standard cases can be modified quickly and reasonably according to the individual CI specifications of the user.

The range of services of the Service-Center comprises several possible options for this subsequent modification, for example drilling, tapping, milling and stamping. In addition, the standard products can be given a company-specific appearance through the use of silk-screen printing, tampo printing or lacquering. If the parts are required to have special properties, such as resistance to chemicals, noninflammability or continuous, solid colours, OKW can also produce the cases in other materials and colours; from a batch size of 200 pieces.

A further useful service is the acquisition and installation of accessories, such as screwed cable glands, display screens, connectors, bushings and membrane keyboards. Attachment domes are already permanently integrated as standard in all standard OKW cases. If additional fixture points are required to attach PCBs or other components, however, it is also possible to bond in further attachment domes or strips.

If, in spite of all of this, if one still cannot find one's 'case preference', the user still has the option of having his case 'made to measure'. This can be done in two ways; either the user can have his own individual tool built for him, or he can fall back on the standard tools of the manufacturer by using customer-specific inserts.

The past few years have shown that electromagnetic compatibility with interfering radiation plays an important part. OKW now offers the majority of its cases with an aluminium coating as standard. This coating is applied in a vacuum, and with a thickness of approx. 2,5 µm has good adhesion and a shielding effect of 30-40 dB in the frequency range from 30 to 1000 MHz. On account of the fact that it has its own facilities, it is also possible to use other coating thicknesses or materials for the vapour-plating in order to achieve the required shielding effect.
