As an extension of the VITA 65 OpenVPX standard, Vita 66 enables a compatible VPX interface containing optical connectors with fixed contacts on the plug-in module and floating displacement on the backplane. Samtec has now announced a landing page for Vita 66 (www.samtec.com/standards/vita/opticalvpx) where both products and support on this standard can be sourced, and which is dedicated to helping customers find the correct mid-board connectivity options more efficiently.
Vita 66.0 is the base standard that defines the family of blind-mate fibre-optic interconnects for use with VPX backplanes and plug-in modules. The most relevant standards for Samtec are the 66.1 MT variant and the 66.4 half-MT variant. The Vita 66 standard evolved from the older Vita 46 standard when mixed signalling with optics was added to the available options.
