Infineon’s easy-to-use replacement for legacy barrel jacks

30 May 2022 News

Following the recent (May 2022) European Union’s (EU) mandate that will require all companies supplying devices to the EU to offer a USB-C port to supply power for charging the device, Infineon has announced a webinar to address the issue of redesigning devices to contain a USB-C port. The move to a USB-C port on consumer devices would significantly reduce environmental pollution and would directly benefit consumers by reducing vendor lock-in.

Almost eight years old, the USB-C connector is set to become the standard port for charging, not only for computing devices like laptops, smartphones and tablet computers, but also for other consumer devices like power tools and test equipment. Infineon has a rich portfolio of USB-C and power delivery products that provide end-to-end solutions for delivering power via the USB-C port. Its EZ-PD barrel connector replacement is an easy-to-use, cost-effective solution to replace legacy barrel jacks or other custom connectors with USB-C. Few external components are needed and no firmware development is required.

Join Mark Fu, senior marketing director at Infineon Technologies, in a webinar on 28 June to gain insights into the benefits of using Infineon’s integrated USB-C port controller to replace barrel connectors in electronic devices with power requirements up to 240 W.
