• The NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 has recently generated a large amount of interest in the market, with expectations running high for strong shipment performance driven by solid demand. However, uncertainties exist as memory supply constraints could impact overall shipments. TrendForce anticipates that the custom low-power variant RTX PRO 6000 will be introduced in the second half of this year, but so far has not garnered much interest among Chinese buyers as the competitively priced Huawei Ascend 910c offers a more cost-effective alternative.

• The global GenAI market surpassed $130 billion in the 2024 financial year. According to Berg Insight, the market grew by triple-digit growth rates in all three major segments covering GenAI hardware, foundation models, and development platforms. The market value for foundation models reached an estimated $4,1 billion, with this figure primarily including income through API services or license fees as the models are used on development platforms.

• Global NEV sales grew 30% in Q2 2025 with BYD leading the charge while Tesla slumps further. Global sales of NEVs, which include BEVs, PHEVs, and FCVs, reached 4,868 million units in this second quarter, up 30% YoY. BYD is the leading BEV brand with an 18,3% market share and a robust 43% YoY growth. Tesla held onto second place but saw further declines in China, North America, and Western Europe, leading to a 14% YoY drop in sales during this period.

• NAND Flash industry posted solid growth in Q2 2025 with revenue surging over 20%. Despite slight declines in the ASP, bit shipments rose driving combined revenue among the top five suppliers up 22% QoQ to $14,67 billion. Samsung remained in top spot with a revenue of $5,2 billion, largely due to strong demand for enterprise SSDs for AI servers. SK Group comprising SK Hynix and Solidigm saw its revenue soar to a new record of $3,34 billion, up 52,5% QoQ.

• DRAM revenue was up 17,1% QoQ in Q2 2025, largely due to rising contract prices for conventional DRAM and expanding HBM volumes. SK hynix secured top spot in this market with an increase of 25,8% to boast a revenue of $12,23 billion.

• Foundry revenue continued to grow reaching a record high. TSMC retained the lion’s share with an 18,5% increase to claim 70,2% of the market. Samsung Foundry remained in second spot with revenue up 9,2% QoQ to $3,16 billion, amounting to a 7,3% market share. SMIC took third place with a market share of 5,3%.

Companies

• Vertiv Holdings has acquired generative AI software company, Waylay NV, to enhance its critical digital infrastructure operational intelligence, optimisation, and services. This investment is set to play a role in Vertiv strengthening its ability to enable customers around the world to increase uptime, optimise energy usage, and enhance operations across their critical digital infrastructure.

• Pulsiv, a UK innovator of power electronics technology, have signed a global stocking agreement with Farnell. This signing will see Pulsiv’s microcontrollers, evaluation boards, and fully assembled USB-C modules held in stock at Farnell’s distribution centre in Leeds, UK and delivered to customers globally within 48 hours.

• STMicroelectronics recently announced details regarding its development of the next generations of Panel-Level Packaging (PLP) technology through a pilot line in its Tours site in France, which is expected to be operational in Q3 2026. PLP is an advanced, automated chip packaging and test process technology that brings increased manufacturing efficiency and reduced costs. It is a key enabler for creating the next generation of smaller, more powerful, electronic devices.

• Smartphone production rose 4% QoQ in Q2 2025 to reach 300 million units. Samsung remained the largest producer even though its output dropped by 5% during the quarter to 58 million units. Apple ranked second with 46 million units, down 9% QoQ. Xiaomi secured third place with a production of 42 million units.

Technologies

• The South African Photovoltaic Industry Association (SAPVIA) has celebrated a significant milestone following the Department of Electricity and Energy’s allocation of six new solar PV projects under Bid Window 7 of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP). SAPVIA has stated that these six projects, totalling 1290 MW, solidify solar PV’s leading role in South Africa’s clean energy transition. All awarded projects were secured by SAPVIA member companies, highlighting the industry’s proven competitiveness and reliability.

• NVIDIA’s newly released Jetson Thor integrates the Blackwell GPU and 128 GB of memory to deliver 2070 TFLOPS of AI performance. The Jetson Thor targets humanoid robots by being able to take on the role of the ‘physical intelligence core’. It has been reported that the leap to this processing power is not simply a numerical upgrade, but rather an enabler for robots to be able to process massive amounts of sensor data and LLMs in real time. This will theoretically enable humanoid robots to see, reason, and act without lag. Although more than double the price tag of its predecessor, the Jetson Orin, the Thor has already been incorporated into products by Advantech, NEXCOM, and Solomon.

• The latest findings by TrendForce have revealed that the massive data volumes generated by AI are straining the global infrastructure of data centre storage. HDDs, the backbone of large-scale data storage, are facing severe supply shortages. In turn this has pushed high-performance yet higher-cost SSDs into this sector. The forecast is that shipments of high-capacity SSDs are set to increase dramatically into 2026.
