The Technology Station in Electronics (TSE) has entered a new chapter with its relocation from the CSIR campus to Ditsela Place in Hatfield. TSE moved to the CSIR in 2018 and has now relocated to a TUT-owned building that provides improved access for industry partners, clients, and the broader innovation community.
The move strengthens TSE’s role as a practical support mechanism for South African start-ups, SMMEs, and companies that need technical support to develop new electronic and mechanical products. Many innovators have promising product ideas, but are constrained by limited funding, engineering capacity, manufacturing knowledge, or access to specialised equipment. TSE exists to help bridge this gap.
Through support from the Technology Innovation Agency, TSE is funded to provide technical services on behalf of qualifying clients. This enables entrepreneurs and small businesses to access product development expertise, prototyping facilities, and low-volume manufacturing support that would otherwise be difficult or costly to obtain. TSE uses its in-house engineering skills, design tools, and manufacturing equipment to assist clients in moving ideas from concept to working prototype and towards early-stage production.
TSE also links clients to the broader Tshwane University of Technology environment, including intellectual property support that can assist innovators to protect their ideas. This combination of technical development, manufacturing capability, and institutional support is what makes TSE different.
From Ditsela Place, TSE will continue to offer electronic and mechanical product design, electronic prototyping and low-volume manufacturing, laser cutting, CNC machining, and 3D printing. The new location also improves access to TSE for industry partners and creates new opportunities for collaboration across the electronics sector.
TSE invites anyone with a product idea, technical challenge or development need to knock on its door and explore how collaboration can turn promising concepts into practical solutions.
