Engineering trust in South Africa’s SMT sector

31 July 2026 Manufacturing / Production Technology, Hardware & Services

For four decades, Zetech One has played a specialised role in South Africa’s electronic assembly industry, supplying surface-mount technology (SMT) equipment, consumables and technical support to local manufacturers. Founded in 1986 by Zalman Orlianski and his wife, Inna, the company has built its reputation on practical engineering expertise, responsive service and long-term customer relationships.

Its vision is clear: to be the leading supplier of SMT technology in the South African electronic assembly market, and the partner customers turn to for efficiency, technical knowledge, dependable service and high-quality support.

Zetech One’s story began in Blairgowrie, Johannesburg, as a one-person operation shaped by Zalman Orlianski’s passion for electronics and engineering. A qualified electronics engineer with an MBA from Wits Business School, Zalman initially managed every part of the business, from sales and administration to quotations and customer support. With Inna’s support, the company steadily grew into a focused SMT technology supplier.

A significant milestone came in 2016, when Zetech One moved from Blairgowrie to its own premises in Eastleigh, Edenvale. The relocation reflected not only the company’s growth, but also its continued investment in serving South Africa’s electronic assembly market more effectively.

Technology for a demanding production environment

In an industry where accuracy, repeatability and uptime are critical, Zetech One provides SMT technology, equipment and consumables backed by training, maintenance and technical assistance. Its offering is designed to help manufacturers improve production efficiency, strengthen reliability and expand their assembly capabilities.

The company represents and supplies equipment from some of the world’s respected technology brands, including HANWHA/Samsung from South Korea, Fritsch from Germany, PVA Precision Valve & Automation from the USA, Seica testing equipment from Italy, ESSEGI smart storage solutions from Italy, Vision Engineering microscopes from the UK and Universal Instruments from the USA, among others.

Its equipment range includes wave, reflow and selective soldering machines, as well as high-definition AOI and X-ray inspection systems. Zetech One’s customer base includes PC board and electronics manufacturers across South Africa.

Beyond supplying equipment and materials, the company works with customers to understand their individual production needs and develop practical solutions around processes, equipment and material requirements.

Adding laser-cut stencils

While Zetech One’s core focus has remained consistent since its establishment, the business has continued to broaden its SMT offering. A notable addition came in 2017, when Zetech One acquired the exclusive ASM (DEK) franchise for the manufacture of laser-cut stencils in southern Africa through the VectorGuard solution.

Located at its Edenvale premises, Zetech One’s laser-cut stencil facility includes the T8 laser system, stencil CAD computers and inspection facilities. The company produces a range of DEK stencil types, from stainless steel and fine-grain stencils for fine-pitch applications, to laser-cut nickel stencils, multi-level designs, electroformed stencils and specialised 3D electroformed stencils for applications such as cavities or chip-on-board assemblies.

Zetech One also offers standard and high-tension VectorGuard frames. The system enables assembly specialists to use one frame for multiple stencil foils across different products. Foils are loaded using air pressure, after which VectorGuard’s tensioning system holds each foil securely in place.

For more demanding applications and process requirements, Zetech One’s specialists are available to provide further technical assistance.

A compact team with deep technical knowledge

Today, Zetech One remains a compact business with a skilled team of six people. Its growth from a one-person operation into a specialised technical supplier reflects steady development, disciplined focus and the accumulation of hands-on expertise over several decades.

One of the company’s strongest differentiators is its commitment to support. Zetech One prides itself on being available when customers need assistance, including urgent after-hours, weekend and holiday support where required. In a specialised and technically demanding market, this practical, service-led approach has helped build lasting trust.

That trust is underpinned by values that have remained central to the business: integrity, respect, co-operation, efficiency, technical knowledge, professionalism and engineering excellence.

Together, these principles guide Zetech One’s approach to customer relationships, service delivery and long-term support.

With more than three decades of experience, Zetech One combines specialist SMT knowledge, global technology partnerships and responsive, hands-on support. For South African manufacturers seeking reliable SMT solutions and a supplier that understands the realities of local production, the company continues to position itself as a trusted technical partner.
