Magnet offers PFC service

3 October 2012 Power Electronics / Power Management

Magnet, specialists in the supply, implementation and support of electrical equipment and industrial instrumentation, offers the local market a power factor correction (PFC) service designed to protect electrical and electronic equipment from potential damage and to reduce electricity usage.

Prior to the installation of power factor correction equipment, Magnet does an audit of an organisation’s electrical and electronics system, taking into account the necessary electrical measurements of the network – short or long-term data – with a data-logger.

This data provides an understanding of the power consumption and power factor constraints of the system, and ensures the recommended solution is based on accurate information. Physical constraints, like available space for the installation of hardware, ventilation and index protection (IP) ratings, are also considered.

Magnet’s PFC equipment encompasses harmonic filters, which are designed to filter harmonics. This equipment results in the immediate reduction of an organisation’s maximum electricity demand and also reduces electricity consumption as a result of the decrease of the overall heat losses in an installation.

There is also an immediate increase in the system capacity of installations, a reduction in production costs, improved profitability and a reduction in the carbon footprint of the installation.

This new division is headed up by Magnet’s training manager, Brian Bilton (pictured), who also facilitates site visits and PFC audits. The company offers technical expertise coupled with quality branded products and a 24-hour support service.
