SMD over-current/temperature protectors

TE Circuit Protection has announced a new family of nine low-rho (low-resistance) surface-mount devices that help provide both over-current and over-temperature protection for the battery pack PCMs (protection circuit modules) used in compact consumer devices.

The low-rho products are provided in industry-standard form factors of 1210 (3,0 x 2,54 mm), 1206 (3,0 x 1,52 mm) or 1812 (3,0 x 4,57 mm). They can be assembled with a reflowable soldering technique, as opposed to the spot welding process required by many other components, to save board space and reduce production costs.

The devices’ resistance is just 10 to 25 m after reflow processing, helping to reduce power consumption and improve battery efficiency. The nine new devices in the series are all designed for an operating current of 2 A and above.
