TenAsys’s new Release 5 of its INtime software packages two operating environments: an updated release of INtime for Windows and the new INtime Distributed RTOS, providing flexibility for embedded system developers in reducing system-level costs and adding scalability to PC-based embedded designs.
This allows users to develop RTOS applications alongside Windows, or standalone RTOS applications with the same tools and familiar Microsoft Visual Studio integrated development environment. This gives users the flexibility to use existing software code and applications across PC platforms.
The Windows and distributed RTOS environments are designed to work together such that one can be an extension of the other if needed. This enables OEMs to scale their embedded system applications to address multiple cost/performance options.
Key to the scalability that INtime enables is GOBSnet, an inter-process communication mechanism that facilitates communications between a network of processing nodes, all running instances of the INtime RTOS. A single process resides on one node and forwards requests to other nodes on the same host processor or other hosts, requiring only a single network connection, no matter how many nodes are present in the system.
INtime Release 5 includes improvements in the node-to-node interfaces, such as a new optimised Message Queue, resulting in higher performance communications between nodes on the same host.
The new software release also supplements its existing USB stack implementation with a completely new USB stack which includes support for USB 3.0 and the XHCI controllers found on the latest PC platforms. Also, the OS’ application interface has been improved for better performance and functionality.
