Broad release of power supplies and converters

14 November 2012 Power Electronics / Power Management

Tracopower has launched a slew of new power supply and conversion products, allowing the manufacturer to offer a range covering low-power (1–240 W) DC-DC converter modules, encapsulated AC-DC power modules (4–60 W), AC-DC power supplies (open-frame/encased at10–1000 W), industrial power supplies for DIN-rail mounting (15–960 W) and high-power AC-DC and DC-DC converters up to 22 kW.

The TMR 6 series is a new generation of high-grade DC-DC converters measuring just 21,8 x 9,1 mm in area and 11,2 mm in height. 32 models are included in the range, covering four 2:1 input voltage ranges (4,5 up to 75 V d.c.) and eight fully regulated output voltages (3,3 V, 5,0 V, 9,0 V, 12 V, 15 V, ±5,0 V, ±12 V and ±15 V d.c.).

High-grade components, combined with a high-efficiency design, allow the 6 series to be operated from –40°C and, without power derating, up to 65°C. 1500 V d.c. I/O isolation, remote on/off function and continuous short circuit protection are further integrated benefits for versatile and space critical applications in communication equipment, instrumentation and industrial electronics.

The TEN 50 series models feature high efficiency of up to 92%. The low thermal dissipation and the use of highest-grade components allow an operating temperature range of –40°C to +85°C while no forced air cooling is required up to 55°C. With an optional heatsink this temperature can be further increased.

The high efficiency of the TEN 50 series is provided over a wide load range and no minimum load is required for an accurate output regulation. The devices come with remote on/off function and have a ±10% adjustable output voltage. Along with a host of standard features, these converters are well suited for space-critical high-performance applications.

The TEN 6N and TEN 6WIN DC-DC converter families feature a revised design of standard 6 W converters in a DIP 24 casing for easy design-in and drop-in replacement. The TEN-6WIN series features a 4:1 input voltage range while the TEN 6N series has a 2:1 input voltage range. General features of these devices include no minimum load requirement, overload protection, internal filter for EN55022 class A and high efficiency.

Two new 1 W DC-DC converter series are available in a compact SIP package with industry standard pinout. The TRA-1 series has an input/output isolation of 1000 V d.c. while the TRV-1 series provides 3000 V d.c. Both series are UL/IEC/EN 60950-1 approved.

Compared to unregulated DC-DC converters, these modules offer ‘semi regulation’ that levels out load changes. Input voltages are available from 5 V to 24 V and output voltages 5, 9, 12, 15 V and ±5, ±12, ±15 V. High efficiency up to 89% allows an operating temperature range from –40°C to 85°C without derating and external heatsink.

The TMPM 04 series of 4 W AC-DC power supplies are designed to power standby circuits or low-power applications where high efficiency is required. The modules meet with the eco design directive for no-load power consumption and average active efficiency.

The TMPM 4 W series comprises single- and dual-output models with universal input. They come in a 36,5 x 27,0 x 17,1 mm, fully encapsulated casing designed for PCB mounting. With protection class II they do not rely on protective earthing or installation conditions. The units meet with EMC emission standard EN55022 Class B and are protected against overload, over-voltage and over-temperature.

Finally, the TSRN-1 series through-hole and TSRN-1SM series SMD step-down switching regulators offer a high-efficiency alternative to common positive and negative 3-terminal linear voltage regulators (LM78xx and LM79xx). The 1 A non-isolated units provide wide input ranges up to 42 V d.c.

The through-hole version comprises nine models which have a fixed output voltage from 1,5 up to 15 V d.c. while the five models of the SMD version have an adjustable output covering the full range of 1,2 up to 15 V d.c. All regulators can be used for positive and negative output voltage circuits.

According to the manufacturer, these switching regulators have advantages over linear regulators such as better output voltage accuracy, a lower standby current, much wider input range and they can be operated without external capacitors. With their high efficiency of up to 95% they do not need a heatsink or chassis contact.

The SMD models can be operated at full load up to 55°C and the through-hole models up to 70°C ambient temperature. With some derating they can be used at an ambient temperature of up to 85°C. High efficiency, low standby power consumption and remote on/off function (for SMD version) make these regulators well suited for energy sensitive applications.
