Test Instruments Africa (TIA) has been appointed sole southern African distributor by Seaward, a manufacturer of electrical test equipment based in the United Kingdom.
With over 70 years of experience in the field, Seaward has a range of instruments serving a wide variety of safety testing and precision measurement applications.
Specialists in the portable appliance testing (PAT) market, the company has, for 25 years, been developing testers, software and accessories for this growing inter-national requirement. “With the recent emphasis on a risk-based approach to workplace electrical safety testing, a significant challenge has been posed for manufacturers operating in this space,” says Jim Wallace, product technology director at Seaward.
“Our response to this growing need,” he says, “includes the launch of Seaward’s ground-breaking new PAT Tester, Apollo 600, which, with its unique innovative features, such as onboard cameras, also serves as a comprehensive Health and Safety Management System.”

According to Justin Clarkson, TIA’s sales director, “In South Africa there are four regulations pertaining to the safety of persons and the equipment used whilst on work premises. It is clear from these that there is a requirement and duty to inspect and test all types of electrical equipment in all work situations, in the interest of ensuring the safety of both employees and the public.”
Seaward also manufactures the Cropico and Clare ranges of precision instruments and industrial electrical test equipment, as well as a range of solar photovoltaic (PV) test equipment enabling PV installers to meet all testing and certification recommendations of IEC 62446 safely and efficiently.
