OSRAM Opto Semiconductors has boosted the optical output power of its Golden Dragon infrared LED by 20%, giving the SFH 4232A a typical optical output of 650 mW. Particularly efficient at currents of up to 2 A, the device yields efficiency above 39% at a current of 1 A.
This performance provides the basis for reliable monitoring and surveillance systems and helps to reduce system costs. This benefits general applications in process and production control in industry and camera-based surveillance applications.
The surface-mount package contains a high-power thin-film chip of the latest generation which emits infrared light with a wavelength of 850 nm. The device has a beam angle of ±60 degrees and radiant intensity (the light output within a solid angle) of 210 mW/sr. This higher optical output has been achieved thanks to improved light extraction from the chip.
