19" plug-in units

Schroff has developed the new, cost-effective PRO system of 19“ plug-in units that is designed for improved airflow, higher stability and improved EMC shielding.

The new units accommodate printed circuit boards (PCBs) in Euroboard format, and their mechanical dimensions comply with the IEC 60297-3-101/IEEE 1101.1/11 standard, the so-called 19“ standard. They are supplied in heights of 3 U and 6 U, and widths ranging from 5 HP to 42 HP.

They allow ad-hoc assembly through retractable cover plates and handles that can be screwed on from the front. Disassembly of the rear panel is possible without having to remove the PCBs. Excellent ventilation is provided through cover plates with a level of perforation of 65%, and a shielded front panel is available (u-shaped profile).

Three versions of the cover and base plates are available: a plainly cut perforated plate, a closed sheet and a special perforated sheet, into which guide rails for the PCBs can be clipped in an HP grid.

The plain perforated plate and the closed versions are the more inexpensive alternatives. They allow installation of only one PCB, which in many applications is sufficient. The cover and base plates are not bolted to the extruded side panels but are instead inserted in grooves to facilitate assembly.

The rear panel as well as the cover and base plates are made of 1,5 mm sheet steel, which provides the necessary stability even in larger plug-in units. The rear panel is flat, which makes it easy to machine. It is also available in three versions: closed; for one connector to DIN EN 41612; and for several DIN connectors. An optional fastener serves better EMC contact between rear panel and cover plate as well as increasing stability of larger plug-in units.

PRO plug-in units use screws with Torx-drive system instead of cross-head screws, making them more suitable for power bolting as more force can be applied and the screws are easier to position.

By means of the narrower extrusion, 1 HP is saved for use of the second plug-in position (slot 2). The entire interior space of the plug-in unit can therefore be used for installation of boards in an HP pattern. The inserted boards are automatically secured in the depth by the rear panel without having to be attached to it.

The extruded aluminium side panel of the new PRO plug-in unit is considerably narrower than that of the earlier version. This saves material while at the same time providing more space for vertical airflow. The shielded side panels are now U-shaped and equipped with an EMC textile gasket. The U-shape of the front panel also increases the stability of the plug-in units.

If necessary, the shielding can be further upgraded. To this end, an additional groove was integrated in the depth of the extrusion into which an EMC round cord can be fitted. The junction between cover plate and rear panel becomes a conductive connection by means of cast parts which are hooked onto the cover and base plate, top and bottom, which are then bolted to the rear panel. This improves the EMC shielding and provides additional stability in the horizontal direction.
