SMT transient voltage suppressors

12 June 2013 Circuit & System Protection

Vishay introduced a new series of surface-mount TRANSZORB bidirectional transient voltage suppressors (TVS) in the SMC DO-214AB package. For automotive and telecom applications, SMC3K series devices feature high surge capability to 3 kW at 10/1000 s.

Claiming twice the surge capability of conventional 1,5 kW devices in SMC packages, the new devices increase design flexibility and compatibility. In addition, the their new low-stress, symmetric lead frame designs provide the high reliability required for automotive applications.

Designed to protect sensitive electronic equipment against voltage transients induced by system inductive load switching and lightning, the AEC-Q101-qualified devices are suitable for LNB and telecom power line lightning surge protection, and for automotive motor and battery power line inductive surge protection.

The SMC3K series consists of 19 TVS devices with stand-off voltages from 22 V to 78 V. They offer a peak pulse surge current from 23,8 A to 84,5 A, maximum clamping voltage from 35,5 V to 126 V, very fast response times, low incremental surge resistance, and operating temperature from -55°C to

+150°C.
