RS celebrates Raspberry Pi anniversary with giveaways

News
RS Components is celebrating the one year anniversary of the Raspberry Pi computing system with the launch of custom designed, limited edition, blue Raspberry Pi Anniversary boards. The distributor is giving the boards away via educational and charitable competitions and auctions.
Although the Raspberry Pi platform has been adopted for a multitude of sophisticated developments since its launch in 2012, it was initially conceived by the Raspberry Pi Foundation to encourage youngsters around the world to take a more active interest in the development of computer programs.
The Raspberry Pi is a small, lightweight credit-card sized computer board which is easy to use and can plug in to a TV or keyboard. It is capable of acting like a normal desktop PC with the functionalities of spreadsheets, word processing and games.
With accessories added over the last year, and the Model B and Model A boards having been very successful, it is safe to say that Raspberry Pi has grown to become very popular and very high in demand. Mass production was also ramped up and there are licensed manufacturing deals in place, through the terms of which RS Components is one of the two companies distributing the products.
RS will make only 20 of the Anniversary boards available to the South African market. The boards will not be available for sale but will be available only through charitable and educational activities such as competitions and auctions whereby the proceeds will be donated to RS Components’ charity of choice, Saving the Wild Dogs.
It is possible to use a Raspberry Pi in not only home automation, for security purposes and the like, but also for wildlife as it can be used to track, monitor and help save the 450 wild dogs still left in the world by using the recently launched Raspberry Pi camera module.
The reader who provides the most inspirational motivation as to why a specific school would benefit from receiving a Raspberry Pi, will win a limited edition board, while the specified school will receive a standard Model B board and accessories.
To recommend a school and provide a motivation, e-mail [email protected] before 11 July 2013 and include the code RASPANN1.
