Omnetics’ high-reliability Micro-D connectors are now available with mixed power/signal contact layouts. The respective number of power and signal contacts may be custom configured on an application to application basis to provide flexibility in terms of circuit design while maintaining a Micro D form factor.
The hybrid design eliminates the need to have both D-Sub type or other higher-power connectors next to the Micro-D, making it easier for end users who now only need to mate a single connector versus multiple connector types. The hybrid connectors are available in wired or through-hole PCB mount termination types. The wired power contact is an insertable/removable type contact which can be optionally supplied for customer termination.
The connectors feature power contacts suitable to handle #20-#24 AWG wire and up to 10 A per contact. Meanwhile, the signal contacts are the same high-quality mil spec contacts used within Omnetics’ QPL Micro-D (MIL-DTL-83513) line. These are rated at 3 A per contact and can withstand over 2000 mating cycles.
The hybrid Micro-D’s can be packaged in one of two options: a conventional screw-together type Micro-D shell commonly referred to within the MIL-DTL-83513 standard; or a quick latching option requiring no tools.
What’s the big deal with open pin fields?
Interconnection
The concept behind the open pin field array is that it provides many contacts that are not limited to a single role.
