DALI to PWM converter for LED lighting

12 March 2014 Power Electronics / Power Management

For LED lighting applications requiring DALI control, Mean Well has introduced the DAP-04 DALI to PWM converter. It is equipped with a 3-in-1 dimming function, permitting DALI dimming and push-dim functions.

When connecting to the external DALI controller, the device can convert the DALI signal transmitted from the controller into a PWM signal, which can then control a lighting fixture. Similarly, by adding the external push dimmer, the output PWM signal can also adjust the LED output current according to how long the dimmer is pressed.

Each output channel can connect with the dimming control input of a Mean Well LED power supply for up to 20 units, which means the four output channels can connect with up to 80 units in total. Each channel has an independent DALI address and can be controlled separately.

Featuring a 90 - 305 V a.c. input and power consumption below 0,5 W, the DAP-04 can be cooled by free air convection from -30°C to +60°C ambient temperature in a closed system. Enclosed by UL 94V-0 rated plastic case and with a Class II double isolation design (without FG), these units can effectively prevent users from electrical shock.

The I/O terminals are designed with a screwless clamp style terminal block which allows convenient wiring installation. Standard functions include a built-in relay contact for ON/OFF control of the power supply.
