Whether you’re an amateur radio enthusiast or just interested in finding out more about this topic, don’t miss the South African Radio League’s (SARL) convention in Pretoria on Saturday 12 April.
Hosted by the Magalies Amateur Radio Club (ZS6MRK), the event will have a special focus on amateur radio in practice for travellers and 4x4 and outdoor enthusiasts. Visitors will have the opportunity to interact with the show’s sponsors, ham radio dealers, SARL and ZS6MRK, and can learn from a range of informative speakers. Johan Badenhorst, presenter of the Voetspore TV show, will be the keynote speaker.
Taking place the whole day, the organisers say the event is designed to appeal to a wide audience, including those interested in antennas, data communication, electronics as a hobby or profession, aspects of ICASA amateur radio licensing, satellite communications, Earth-moon-Earth bounce and much more. As a teaser for the kind of things you could learn by attending, SARL points out the interesting fact that radio amateurs own and place private satellites in space and that South Africans are involved in such projects.
