AFL has launched advanced event analysis software for its M-series optical time domain reflectometers (OTDR). Called TruEvent, the software allows the user to confidently determine where losses meet or exceed specifications in anything from data centres to long-haul applications.
Used to test new fibre installations and locate faults in deployed fibre-optic networks, AFL’s OTDRs are available for both multimode and single-mode networks. They scan fibre-optic networks from one end of the fibre, displaying a trace and reporting pass/fail results for detected events such as splices, connectors and micro- or macro-bends. Fibre length is reported along with location and loss of detected events.
Several AFL OTDRs are available with an integrated visual fault locator, optical light source and/or optical power meter. OTDR results can be saved and uploaded to a PC for further analysis and/or archiving. Additional OTDRs with TruEvent technology will be available by mid-2014.
