Anti-surge resistors

14 May 2014 Passive Components

Stackpole Electronics’ ASR/SPR series of anti-surge metal film resistors are designed to withstand high voltage pulses, with a working voltage range from 1150 to 4000 V and overload voltage from 1500 to 5000 V. In addition, they can handle high-voltage capacitor discharges from 3 kV for the smaller sizes up to 10 kV for the larger. The resistors also feature elevated single and repetitive square pulse handling when compared to standard film resistors.

The ASR and SPR series are suitable as lower-cost replacements for ceramic composition and carbon composition resistors where the pulse voltage capability of the resistor is critical or where the inherent inductance of wirewounds is undesirable. In addition, this series is popular for high-voltage power supplies, medical applications, plasma cutters, test systems and circuit protection.

The ASR series is available in resistance values from 10 Ω to 12 MΩ. The SPR series is UL 1676 rated and is available in values from 1 to 12 MΩ. Power ratings range from 0,25 W to 2 W and 5% tolerance is standard.
