RF Design’s very own Andrew Hutton recently competed in the gruelling ABSA Cape Epic mountain bike race which took place at the end of March in the Western Cape.
Together with his teammate Geoff Wood, he took on a field of over 1200 cyclists which included the likes of world champions and Olympic medallists, finishing a highly respectable 350th position out of the 500 teams that managed to cross the finishing line.
The Epic, one of the only races in the world where amateurs get to race against the very best of the best, followed a 718 km route that included some 14 850 m of climbing – equivalent to climbing Mt Everest twice. Completed in just eight days, it’s easy to understand why this race is widely regarded as one of the most punishing in the world.
2014 saw the unveiling of a dramatic new route through challenging but beautiful regions of Robertson, Greyton and Oak Valley Wine Estate, before finishing at the Lourensford Wine Estate, as has been tradition since 2007.
Hutton and Wood rode in the Master category and, fittingly for a man who has dedicated his career to the wireless industry, their progress was tracked in real time through Tracker’s website and regular updates on their progress were provided by RF Design.
