Wi-Fi connection eases fibre probing

The newest member of AFL’s fibre inspection family – FOCIS WiFi – provides a wireless connection of an inspection probe to an Android or iOS phone or tablet.

This enables mobile workers to complete remote fibre-optic connector inspection tasks while remaining connected to co-workers and managers.

Three different options are available:

* FOCIS WiFi VIEW – enables users to view live images of a fibre end-face on a smartphone or tablet.

* FOCIS WiFi PLUS – gives the ability to view, save, compare and share saved end-face images via email, text or mobile cloud applications.

* FOCIS WiFi PRO – automatically analyses connector integrity according to IEC 61300-3-35, AT&T TP-76461, or user defined standards, and allows users to save, recall and share results via email, text or mobile cloud applications. Customers can upgrade from VIEW to PLUS to PRO as their inspection needs change.

The system consists of the proven DFS1 Digital FibreScope and a Portable Application Link WiFi unit. It also includes FOCIS MOBILE, a mobile app available for iPhone and iPad as well as Android mobile devices. The kit includes a hard-sided carry case that contains the DFS1, the PAL, an AC adaptor/charger, a user guide and a holster/belt clip.

Applications include enterprise and campus networks; data centre patch panels, trunks, patch cords and equipment terminations; long-haul, metro core and access links; broadband and CATV networks, and access network cabinets and drops.
