Anode gated thyristor

The CLB30I1200HB – the first product derived from Ixys’ ComPack technology platform – is a 30 A/1200 V single thyristor in a TO-247 discrete package.

Its standout feature is the gate control, as it is connected to the anode side of the silicon die instead of to the cathode side as in a standard thyristor.

The combination of this anode gated thyristor (AGT) together with a standard thyristor opens up several interesting configurations. Thyristor phase-leg configurations normally contain two separated gate driver potentials but, by replacing one thyristor with the AGT, it will reduce to only one gate driver potential. This will save one complete gate driver circuit. An AC switch configuration can also benefit from the AGT since, here again, the switch can be operated with only one gate drive circuit.

Several applications are targeted by the new product range, for example line rectifying, soft-starters, DC motor control, AC power/lighting and temperature control. Generally all applications that use thyristors and/or TRIACs can benefit.
