Freescale eager to adopt new ARM core

Freescale Semiconductor has become one of the first microcontroller makers to back the brand new Cortex-M7 core architecture developed by ARM. While specifics are not available at this time, Freescale has announced publicly that it will adopt the new core in forthcoming embedded systems-on-chip.
The Cortex-M7 provides up to two times the performance of ARM Cortex-M4 solutions, while delivering faster connectivity and powerful localised processing for a range of fast-growing markets including motor control, power conversion, Internet of Things and connectivity applications.
In showing his appreciation for Freescale’s support, Noel Hurley, general manager of ARM’s CPU group, said, “We value the insight that Freescale and their customers have given us in determining the functionality for the Cortex-M7 processor. With double the compute and digital signal processing capability of today’s most powerful ARM-based MCUs, we expect the Cortex-M7 to be at the heart of a range of innovative, performance-driven embedded applications.”
