Oscillators with low phase noise and jitter

19 November 2014 Analogue, Mixed Signal, LSI

Mercury Electronics provided a sneak preview of its appearance at electronica 2014 with the announcement that it will launch new ranges of ultra-low phase noise surface mount oscillators and low phase jitter voltage controlled crystal oscillators (VCXOs).

Offering frequencies from 40 to 200 MHz, the new HPK, HCK and HDK surface mount oscillators offer typical femtosecond integrated phase jitter of 200 fs for PECL and differential HCSL output models, and 300 fs for LVDS output logic versions. Ultra-low phase noise specifications are 138 and 136 dBc/Hz at 10 kHz, respectively.

Supply voltages of 2,5 and 3,3 V are available and all three types are offered in 7 x 5 x 1,8 mm and 5 x 3,2 x 1,2 mm, six-pad surface mount packages for commercial (-10°C to +70°C) or industrial (-40°C to +85°C) temperature ranges.

The low jitter VCXOs on show – GPQN and GDQN – cover a wide frequency range from 10 to 1450 MHz and offer a choice of LVPECL or LVDS output logic. Both 2,5 and 3,3 V supply voltages are available and these devices also feature a tri-state function to conserve power.

Available with short lead times, the GPQN and GDQN are precision frequency control components with current consumption of less than 15 mA at 10 MHz, integrated phase jitter performance of less than 0,6 ps rms and a choice of two industry standard SMD packages measuring 7 x 5 mm or 5 x 3,2 mm.
