Cape Town to host NLA’s 2015 T&M conference

25 February 2015 News

South Africa’s National Laboratory Association (NLA) has revealed that Cape Town will, for the first time, host the annual Test and Measurement Conference. Due to be held at the Lord Charles Hotel in Somerset West from 12 to 14 October, the theme of this year’s event is ‘Quality of Life: What is the measure of it’.

To give interested parties sufficient chance to allocate time and budgets, the NLA’s marketing campaign for this year’s conference is ramping up early, and it has announced that it is arranging travel packages for its members.

Additionally, the call for papers has been issued and applicants are invited to submit an abstract of 350 words or less in order to present either a paper, poster or tutorial at the conference. Abstracts can be submitted electronically via the official website, from where suitable templates can also be obtained.

Particular areas of focus singled out by the NLA for this year’s conference are:

• Measurement traceability: method validation, measurement uncertainty, reference materials.

• Laboratory quality systems: ISO/IEC 17025, accreditation, calibration, proficiency testing.

• Laboratory staff: recruitment, training, evaluating competence.

• Measurement and testing in industry.

• Legal metrology / compulsory specifications.
