China’s rise continues – and it shows

The Chinese spinoff of Messe München’s hugely successful electronica and productronica expos continued its growth this year when it was held at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre from 19 to 21 March.
As one would expect, the focus was on modern electronics applications in industrial, automotive, communication, medical and consumer products.
As in the past, electronica China 2015 and productronica China 2015 were held concurrently, but this year drew 1006 exhibitors from 28 countries and regions to show their wares, up appreciably from 868 exhibitors from 18 countries last year. It also attracted more visitors – 55 365 in 2015 compared to 51 498 in 2014 – and garnered the participation of more than 3000 visitors at the six technical forums held alongside the show.
While it still has some way to go to match the popularity of its German counterparts – some 73 000 visitors from over 80 countries and 2737 exhibitors from 50 countries attended electronica 2014 and 38 000 visitors from 83 countries were at the most recent productronica – it has already been announced that 2016 will see another Chinese iteration, and likely a further improvement in attendance, at the same venue in Shanghai from 15 to 17 March.
