Thermal magnetic circuit breakers

10 June 2015 Circuit & System Protection

Legrand’s thermal magnetic DRX range of moulded case circuit breakers (MCCB) has been extended to protect against overloads and short-circuits, in electrical installations up to 630 A.

These robust circuit breakers are suitable for use in any environment, including harsh corrosive conditions and high-temperature applications.

There are three units in this range – DRX 125 (with ratings from 15 A to 125 A), DRX 250 (with ratings from 125 A to 250 A) and DRX 630 (with ratings from 320 A to 630 A). These devices have a mechanical endurance up to 25 000 operations and, for enhanced safety, no live parts are accessible once the system is securely installed under a faceplate.

DRX 125 and DRX 250 units are easily positioned and removed from the DIN rail with an adaptor. All DRX MCCBs can be plate mounted and installed in a Legrand XL³ enclosure in any position, including horizontally. Simple and indelible marking on the front of the MCCB clearly indicates critical information that includes thermal magnetic protection, nominal current and breaking capacity.

These circuit breakers operate in AC or DC and wiring is via busbars or cables. Specially designed accessories facilitate easy wiring, quick installation and, for enhanced safety, remote tripping is allowed. These accessories include cable spreaders, cage terminals, rear terminals, insulating shields and terminal shields. DRX 125 and DRX 250 devices have a hinge design so the front panel can easily open and close.

Control and signalling auxiliaries, which simply clip onto the circuit breaker, include fault signals that indicate the state of the contacts or the opening of the MCCB on a fault. Shunt trips and under-voltage releases allow the remote tripping of a DRX unit. For increased security and to prevent mishandling and the risk of accidents, a padlock can be used to lock the rotary handle.
