GAÏA Converter has released a new family of wide input voltage DC-DC converters targeting avionics, aerospace, military and missile applications. The MGDS-155 series has an input voltage range of 9 – 45 V or 16 - 80 V d.c., making them suitable for 24 V or 28 V applications such as those needing to meet MIL-STD-1275, MILSTD-704, DO-160 requirements.
The family consists of five individual single-output models offering 3,3 V, 5 V, 12 V, 15 V, 24 V and 28 V outputs, each capable of delivering up to 155 W in the industry standard quarter brick footprint of 57,9 x 36,8 x 12,7 mm. The units have ±10% voltage trim capability, efficiency levels as high as 92%, and a standard operating temperature range of -40°C to +105°C case temperature, with an option available for -55°C startup operation if required.
Designed for high-reliability applications, the MGDS-155 does not use optocouplers in the feedback loop, and operates using a fixed switching frequency of 330 kHz. It can be operated at zero load, and employs soft start circuitry which allows for current limiting and eliminates inrush current during startup. Multiple devices can be synchronised directly together to force a single overall switching frequency, or can be connected to an external frequency source.
For applications requiring increased power levels, an optional parallel pin is offered for direct connection of multiple modules, ensuring accurate current share. The units incorporate a complete suite of protection functions such as under-voltage lockout, over-voltage protection, current limit and over-temperature protection, and all units are permanently short circuit proof.
