Altron wins minister’s award at TT100

27 January 2016 News

Altron and its wholly owned subsidiary Altech Multimedia received the 2015 Minister of Science and Technology’s Award for Sustainable Performance for large enterprises at the annual Technology Top 100 Awards.

The TT100 Awards are an annual event hosted by the Da Vinci Institute for the Management of Technology and Innovation under the auspices of the Department of Science and Technology, and are recognised as the premier business excellence awards in South Africa and a celebration of South African innovation.

Entrants are evaluated using the TIPS model which assesses each company on how they have managed technology (T), innovation (I) and people (P), in the context of managing an organisation as a system. They undergo a challenging adjudication process which causes each facet of the business to be carefully examined and scrutinised by a panel of industry specialists.

One of the attributes of the winning companies that subject themselves to the Technology Top 100 adjudication process is that every year they come back for a re-evaluation of their strategic intent. These organisations are constantly testing new ideas, seeking out new markets and above all, improving their overall positioning and growing their businesses. In recognition of these organisations, the TT100 programme instituted the Minister’s Award for Sustainable Performance. Only organisations that have entered the TT100 programme over the past three years and have won at least one category award are eligible for the Minister’s Award.

In addition to the Minister’s Award for Sustainable Performance, Altron received two further awards in the categories of Management of Innovation and Management of Systems for large enterprises, while it was a finalist in the categories of Management of People and Management of Technology.

According to Dr Willie Oosthuysen, Altron group executive for Strategy and Technology, the Excellence in Management of Technology Award recognises innovation in four key domains, namely Product, People, Service and Process. “Altron winning this award is confirmation of our focus on creating an environment which is conducive to employees constantly interrogating and re-examining the way in which we conduct business. This creates a climate for innovation and a quest for industry leadership,” he said.

“Added to this, winning the Management of Systems award emphasises our focus on managing internal and external stakeholders and ensuring that we are constantly abreast with what is happening in the markets in which we operate. We operate in a global environment and we need to ensure that due consideration is given to quality assurance, protection of intellectual property and the deployment of risk mitigation strategies to minimise potential fallout,” he added.

“Innovation and the management of the culture of people, technology and systems processes throughout a business are key to sustainability and I am extremely proud for Altron and Altech Multimedia to have received these awards. It is a real reflection of our advancements and contribution to the South African telecommunications, multimedia and information technology sectors.

“This is not only evidence of the success of our management of systems, people and processes, but also testament to our achievements to receive this level of industry recognition. We remain committed to the development of technology and innovation, both in South Africa and globally, in order to cement our position of market leadership,” he concluded.
