Viavi Solutions has added a TEM timing module for network synchronisation verification to its MTS-5800 handheld network tester.
The MTS-5800 tester is a single tool for network technicians and engineers to install, turn-up and maintain their networks. It supports both the legacy and emerging technologies required to handle various network applications including metro/core, mobile backhaul and business services installations. The small handheld instrument can test throughout the service life cycle, including fibre characterisation, service activation, troubleshooting and maintenance.
Together with the MTS-5800, the field-optimised TEM delivers industry-leading accuracy to field portable timing and synchronisation measurements. It features a GNSS antenna input and a miniature atomic clock (MAC) to ensure nanosecond-accurate measurements even when a satellite signal is not present and the module is running in holdover.
This combination allows users to perform one-way delay measurements that help root out asymmetric network delays; precisely measure PTP PDV to pre-qualify or troubleshoot non-PTP-aware networks; qualify GNSS antenna installations by evaluating satellite signal strength and eliminating antenna faults; troubleshoot the accuracy of equipment 1 PPS output signals with 1 PPS wander analysis; and measure T1 and E1 jitter and wander.
