The ESP32 from Espressif Systems is a 2,4 GHz Wi-Fi plus Bluetooth combo chip with in-built antenna switches, RF balun, power amplifier, low noise receive amplifier, filters and power management modules. It can perform as a complete, standalone system or as a slave device to a host MCU to reduce communication stack overhead on the main application processor.
The IC can interface with other systems to provide Wi-Fi and Bluetooth functionality through the SPI/SDIO or I2C/UART interfaces.
Engineered for mobile devices, wearable electronics and Internet of Things (IoT) applications, it achieves ultra-low power consumption through a combination of several proprietary technologies. Power-saving features include fine resolution clock gating, power modes and dynamic power scaling.
Powered by a 240 MHz, dual-core Tensilica LX108 microcontroller pushing out 600 DMIPS, the ESP32 is packing 512 KB of integrated SRAM and 4 MB of Flash, and runs off voltages in the range of 2,2 to 3,6 V. The device is capable of functioning reliably in industrial environments with an operating temperature range of -40°C to +125°C. Thanks to advanced calibration circuitry, it can dynamically adjust itself to remove external circuit imperfections or adapt to changes in external conditions.
