Photo interrupter for non-contact sensing

10 August 2016 Opto-Electronics

Everlight Electronics’ new ITR1502 reflector type photo interrupter can sense an object and give a signal response at a long distance of 4 mm (in contrast to a typical distance sensing range of 0,5 to 1,0 mm) at a speed of 20 μs. Popular ITR applications are paper feed and edge detection in printers, as well as motor revolution detection in projectors and other non-contact sensing applications. Other possible fields of use include factory and industrial automation.

The device consists of an infrared emitting diode and an NPN silicon phototransistor that provides non-contact sensing. It operates with a standard wavelength of 940 nm at VCE = 2 V and IF = 4 mA, and maximum current is 450 A. Its compact package (4,0 x 3,0 x 2,0 mm) effectively blocks visible light and minimises false detection.
